President Barack Obama is not a Republican. His political affiliation is with the Democratic Party, and he is the 44th president of the United States. President Obama also made history by becoming the first African-American president.
President Obama was born in 1961 in Hawaii. He attended Columbia University and Harvard Law School. His political career began when he served in the Illinois Senate and continued on to serve in the U.S. Senate. His presidential campaign began in 2007, and he was elected as president in November 2008. He was sworn in as president on Jan. 20, 2009 and was elected for a second term in 2012.
