What is the Olympic Creed?

Paraphrasing the Olympic Creed, this inspirational statement states that participating in the Olympic Games is the most important thing, not winning, and is similar to how the struggles a person endures are the most important things in life, not the individual triumphs. It also states that fighting well is more essential rather than conquering others.

The Olympic Creed originated from a speech given by Bishop Ethelbert Talbot, the Bishop of Pennsylvania. The Olympic president altered the original speech given by Talbot when he spoke at a reception for Olympic champion athletes following the 1908 Olympic Games. This statement eventually evolved into the Olympic Movement's creed.
