Omeprazole DR is a delayed-release medication that comes in capsule form, and is used for treating heartburn or irritation of the esophagus caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease, notes Drugs.com. The drug is commonly known by its commercial brand name, Prilosec.
Omeprazole DR is a proton pump inhibitor that works by restricting the amount of acid that the stomach produces. While it is an effective treatment for heartburn, it can also be used for short-term treatment for ulcers of the stomach or small intestine, to prevent ulcers of the small intestine from coming back when used along with certain medications, and to treat conditions that cause the stomach to make too much acid, explains Drugs.com.
