What are the options for renewing your passport?

Passport renewal options include mailing the renewal application or applying in person at a Passport Acceptance Facility. Common Passport Acceptance Facilities include post offices and clerks of court.
Passport holders must meet certain requirements to mail the renewal application. The expiring passport must have been issued within the last 15 years when the holder was at least age 16 and in the current legal name. A legal document showing the name change allows the holder to mail the renewal if the name isn't current. The passport must also be undamaged, as it must go with the application. If any of the conditions aren't met, the passport holder must apply for the renewal in person.
