Do you have to get a new passport picture when you renew your passport?

When renewing a passport, applicants must provide a photo that meets the U.S. Department of State's requirements. It must be color, taken within the last six months, have a full face view with no glasses or other items that hide the face. A neutral expression is preferred.

The photo must be printed on matte or glossy photo quality paper and measure 2 inches by 2 inches in size. The head must measure between 1 and 1 3/8 inches from top of the head to the bottom of the chin. Going to a professional passport photographer is advised because of the specific requirements. As of 2015, the passport office allows photos taken with a digital camera as long as they meet specific size and pixel requirements.
