Photosynthesis is a process in which plant cells capture light energy to catalyze reactions inside of their chloroplasts that form organic molecules. The compounds formed as a result of photosynthesis can be used by the plant for energy. The reactions involved in photosynthesis also utilize carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and convert it into water and oxygen, which is then released from the plant for other organisms to use in the environment.
