Who owns the Kilcher homestead?

The Kilcher homestead is owned by Atz Kilcher and his extended family. Atz Kilcher's father, Yule Kilcher, was an immigrant from Switzerland who came to Alaska in the 1940s to escape the war in Europe. The Alaskan government granted him 160 acres of land in the Kachemack Bay area.

In 2011, Discovery Channel began to document the Kilcher family's every day life. Most of the family members, including Atz' brother Otto and nephew Eivin, are known for their wilderness survival skills. The show primarily chronicles their hunting, fixing and farming skills, and the family's ability to live off the land. Pop star, Jewel, is Atz' Kilcher's daughter.
