RFD-TV is owned by Patrick Gottsch. His first run with RFD-TV was in 1988, but the company went bankrupt within a year. Gottsch was unable to relaunch in the 1990s because of the lack of investors. Gottsch brought back RFD-TV as a not-for-profit broadcast in 2000.
The Federal Communications Commission ruled that broadcasting cattle auctions was no longer public-interest programming. This was a great interest on RFD-TV’s lineup, so the network became for-profit in 2007. As of September 2015, RFD-TV’s lineup includes shows such as “This Week in AgriBusiness,†“Training Mules and Donkeys,†“Big Joe Polka Show†and “Ms. Lucy’s Cajun Classroom."
