Beef bologna is made from any beef muscle meat from a cow; however, chicken, turkey, pork or any combination thereof can be used to make bologna. This sausage, also known as hot dogs, wieners or frankfurters, is required to state which meat it contains on the label.
Standard American bologna is commonly consumed in the United States and comes in varying sizes in the shape of a tube. Federal standards of identity require that bologna be comminuted, or minced into minute particles. It must be made from the raw skeletal muscle of some kind of livestock and may contain poultry.
