What are parts of a kitchen hood?

A range hood consists of an effluent plume, a filter and a fan. Many range hoods also have lighting directed at the surface, and some have ducts to release air outside. Sometimes, range hoods have built-in accessories, such as pot racks and utensil hangers.

There are two main types of range hoods. Ductless range hoods recirculate air into a room. Odors and grease are removed via one or more filters that usually contain activated charcoal. A ducted range hood has an exhaust duct that is used to remove fumes and moisture via a vent to the outside of a building.
