According to a 2010 Pew Research Poll, 23 percent of Americans have a tattoo. This number increases to 32 percent among people ages 30 to 45.
Overall, the United States spends more than $1.65 billion on tattoos per year. There are more than 21,000 tattoo parlors across the United States, and a large tattoo runs about $150 an hour. Reasons for getting a tattoo varied with feeling rebellious at 29 percent and feeling sexy at 31 percent. However, 17 percent of people surveyed say they regret their tattoo, and 11 percent of those people are getting or are planning to get one removed.
