According to the GED Testing Service, a perfect score is 800 points on each content area for a total standard score of 4,000 as of 2014. The standard score compares the test taker to a graduating high school senior.
As of 2014, the five content areas on the GED are social studies, science, reading, writing and mathematics. The test taker needs a score of at least 410 to pass each content area; the average standard score for each content area is 500.
In addition to the standard score, the results also include a percentile rank. This indicates the percentage of graduating high school seniors whose scores were the same as or less than that of the test taker.
