What is a bristlenose catfish?

Bristlenose catfish are algae-eating fish found in the tropics of South America. Males grow to 15 centimeters long, and females grow to 12 centimeters. Bristlenose catfish are also known as bushynose catfish, bristlenose pleco and bushynose pleco.

The bristlenose catfish does not tolerate high temperatures well. When these fish are kept in an aquarium, the recommended water temperature is 23 to 27 degrees Celsius. Bristle nose catfish are omnivores, eating algae and small organisms that live in the algae. Males are territorial, but they do not usually cause problems with other fish when kept in an aquarium. They eat baby fish if they are present, but they do not eat older fish.
