Can cats be fed tuna?

Tuna is acceptable to feed to a cat in moderation. Overconsumption of tuna, however, can lead to increased chances of mercury poisoning and vitamin E deficiency. One complication resulting from vitamin E deficiency is steatitis, a painful inflammation of fatty tissue. Red tuna particularly needs to be avoided in excess.

Cats require extra sources of nutrition in their diets. Tuna lacks a lot of vitamins and minerals that are essential to a cat's well-being. However, it is high in protein and contains a vital amino acid known as "taurine" that can be difficult to find in other types of food.
