Can dogs eat pork?

Pork is safe for dogs to eat as long as it is cooked. Eating undercooked pork can lead to trichinellosis, a serious parasitic condition caused by eating trichinella muscle larvae, which are prevalent in pork. Many commercial dog foods use pork as the main ingredient.
The amount of pork that is safe for dogs to eat is dependent on the dog's digestive function. Removing the outer layer of pork is suggested before feeding a dog, as it contains dressings a dog cannot eat. Pork bones are not recommended for dogs, as they may splinter and cause serious health risks. Certain dogs may also be allergic to pork.
