Are there owls in Indiana?

The most common species in the Hoosier State include the great horned owl, barred owl and eastern screech owl. Owls are found across much of Indiana.

The great horned owl is the largest, making its home in tall trees along the forest edge near the open fields it hunts. In an effort to avoid the great horned, the barred owl spends much of its time in the forest interior, nesting in the cavities of deciduous trees. The state's smallest owl, the eastern screech, is found anywhere there is a variety of trees and shrubs, including suburban backyards, urban parks and even college campuses.
