What do pikas eat?

As herbivores, pikas have a diet that consists mainly of tall wildflowers, grass and weeds. Pikas prepare for the cold winters by collecting food in the summer when there is more of an abundance of grasses and weeds. To prevent their food stash from getting moldy, pikas use the heat from the sun to dry out their food first before storing them away.
Pikas live in cool and high-elevated mountains and can be found in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California, Washington and many other states. They can live as long as six to seven years, but the majority of pikas die after only three or four years. Pikas live in colonies where they can protect each other from the harsh climates of their habitats.
