What are some plants that deer won't eat?

Deer typically dislike plants that taste bitter, have a strong scent or have leaves with a texture that is sticky, prickly or fuzzy. Using these plants in landscaping can reduce plant damage by deer.

Trees and shrubs disliked by deer include aralia, holly, boxwood, oak, pines, andromeda, bush cinquefoil, Russian olive, hawthorn, magnolia, maple, ash, Mexican orange, barberry, quince, juniper, rhododendrons and oleander. Flowering and foliage plants disliked by deer include bluebell, daffodil, crocus, fritillaria, bleeding hearts, columbine, lily of the valley, bluebeard, lavender, mullein, catmint, daylily, coneflower, perennial aster, astilbe, candytuft, tulip, iris and begonia. Heather, ivy, vinca, pachysandra and bugleweed make fairly deer-proof ground covers.
