"Platero y Yo" is a Spanish-language novel by the poet Juan Ramon Jimenez. The book recounts the story of a Spanish peasant and his beloved donkey, the eponymous Platero. Originally published in 1914, the author released an expanded version in 1917, adding new chapters.
Each chapter consists of a brief two-page poem set in or around the Spanish town of Moguer. The narrative arc of the novel tracks the pair of protagonists throughout a year, from spring to winter. Jimenez was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1956. It was given to him based on the full body of his work.
