Does popping zits lead to more pimples down the line?

Popping zits can lead to more pimples in the future, according to WebMD. A pimple is a small sack that contains dirt, oil and bacteria. When the pimple is popped, the bacteria inside can land in other pores and cause more blemishes.
Popping zits can also force the debris and bacteria deeper into the skin, causing inflammation and even infection. Left untreated, a pimple typically heals within three to seven days. Popped improperly, it can last for weeks or even create permanent scarring. To properly pop a pimple, wash your hands and use a sterilized needle to gently pierce the outer tip of the blemish. If the pus doesn't come out easily, the pimple isn't ready to be popped and should be left alone.
