As of May 2015, the most popular "Amazing Grace" video on YouTube is the Amazing Grace Christmas House, which features a version from the album "Clubbing Christmas 2012" and has over 39 million views. The next most popular versions are ones by Elvis Presley and Celtic Woman.

John Newton originally composed "Amazing Grace" as a poem in 1772 and published it as part of a collection of hymns in 1779. The words reflect his feelings at being lifted up from a dissolute life to salvation through divine grace. Some 60 years later, the tune familiar today came into use. As of 2015, there are over 3,000 published or recorded versions of "Amazing Grace."
