People looking to apply for food stamps can apply using their state's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program hot-line number. Each state has its own application form, so applicants should not call the Food and Nutrition Service headquarters to apply.

Applicants may also be able to apply online, if their state has online application forms. If not, applicants can look in the state or local government pages of the local phone book to find the phone number and location of the nearest SNAP office.
