What are some possible potato-growing problems?

Common potato-growing problems include pests like aphids and slugs. Diseases, such as late blight and potato blackleg, cause problems in potatoes, as do inadequate growing conditions.
Aphids are small green or pink insects that suck on potato plants until the leaves turn yellow and curl. Slugs bore holes in potato tubers. Potato leaves turn black and die when stricken with late blight, which begins in cool weather and advances as the days warm. When infected by potato blackleg, potato plant leaves turn yellow, and the bases of the stems become black. Too much or too little water and frost damage are also common problems affecting potato plants.
