May through October is the rainy season for the Bahamas, although the islands have rainfall year round. The northern islands get more rain than the southern islands.
The Bahamas consist of 700 islands and 2,400 coral reefs. Only 30 islands are inhabited. The Bahamas are located in the Atlantic Ocean southeast of Florida and northeast of Cuba. Nassau is the capital of The Bahamas, and Freeport is the second largest city. Tourism, international banking and investment management bring in more than half of the country's gross domestic product. The Bahamas have two official languages, English and Creole, and three religions: Baptist, Anglican and Roman Catholic.
