What is the recovery time for a dislocated ankle?

The recovery time for a dislocated ankle is between six and 12 weeks, depending on the severity of the injury and if surgery was needed to correct the problem. Many physicians will recommend that a patient rest their ankle for about six weeks before returning to their normal daily activities, according to Drugs.com.
Aside from resting an ankle that has been dislocated, patients can also use ice every 15 to 20 minutes or as needed, use compression bandages to assist in decreasing the swelling, elevate the affected ankle and use crutches. Sometimes after someone dislocates their ankle, they are not able to return to the same activities they were able to perform before their injury.
