Where does the red panda live?

Red pandas live in the mountainous areas of the Chinese provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan and Xizang at elevations from 4,900 to 13,000 feet. They are also found in the temperate forests of the foothills of the Himalayas in Bhutan, Nepal and northern Myanmar.

For red pandas, home ranges measure from 1 square mile for females to 2 square miles for males. The acrobatic animals are restricted to areas rich in bamboo due to their dependence on it as a food source. Pandas spend much of their time in the trees of these regions, surviving on the youngest, most tender shoots and leaves, along with insects and fruit when the weather is warmer.
