Where do red wolves live?

In America, red wolves are found in the north eastern section of the state of North Carolina. The area in which the red wolf roam wild includes the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.

Originally, the red wolf lived in the wild in a large range that covered Pennsylvania to Florida and west to Texas. In 1980, the species was on the verge of extinction, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service intervened, taking 20 pure bred red wolves into captivity. The red wolf population was replenished after breeding in captivity in facilities across the country.
