What do red snapper eat?

Red snapper are mostly carnivores, although they do consume a few tiny plants. They mainly eat other fish, crustaceans and shrimp.
Red snapper can be fairly large, up to about 50 pounds, so they can eat bigger animals, including squid and octopi. They also feed on smaller animals, such as worms and plankton. Their name, "snapper," comes from the fact that they have overly large canine teeth.
They generally live in areas with reefs or in other types of protected places. They can be found in shallow waters, especially young snapper, but they also go out to a depth of about 600 feet. At deeper depths, their red color is usually darker.
