How do you get black ink out of carpet?

To remove black ink stains, saturate with a lacquer-based hair spray and press into the stain with a clean white cloth. Once the ink stops transferring to the cloth, soak the stain in rubbing alcohol, and blot dry with a clean towel. When dry, hand-brush and vacuum the stain.

1. Spray the stain

   Spray a liberal amount of lacquer-based hairspray directly on the stain. Continue until the entire stain is saturated.

2. Blot the stain

   Firmly press into the moistened stain with a clean white cloth. Do not scrub or rub the stain, as this may spread the ink.

3. Repeat the spray and blot treatment

   Continue to spray the stain and blot until the ink stops transferring to the towel. Repeat the process as many times as is necessary.

4. Add rubbing alcohol

   Pour enough rubbing alcohol to saturate the remnants of the stain. Allow the alcohol to soak into the stain for several minutes.

5. Remove the rubbing alcohol

   Press into the stain with a high-absorption cloth to soak up the rubbing alcohol. Do not scrub, even if most of the ink is removed.

6. Brush the stain

   Once the carpet fibers are dry, brush the area with a stiff-bristled brush. Agitate carpet fibers in all directions to remove leftover hairspray lacquer.

7. Vacuum the area

   Thoroughly vacuum the cleaned area until there is a dry, stain-free carpet. Utilize a standing vacuum or a vacuum hose with attachments depending on the size of the stain.
