As of 2015 the application requirements for NYU include submitting a nonrefundable application fee, the Common Application, standardized test scores and teacher recommendations. The school also suggests taking at least four years of courses in math, science, English, history or social sciences, and a foreign language.

Several programs including business, nursing and engineering require supplementary materials and exams. Having a high GPA and class rank is also essential to getting in. The majority of students admitted to NYU graduate high school with 3.5 and above GPA on a 4.0 scale and are in the top 10 percent of their classes. Test scores are also important, with most admitted students scoring well above the national average.
