Where do rockhopper penguins live?

Rockhopper penguins can be found living on the shores of the windy islands to the north of Antarctica and can also be found in New Zealand, the Falkland Islands and Chile. Rockhopper penguins live in colonies that can number in the hundreds of thousands, especially during breeding seasons.

Rockhopper penguins are capable of swimming in frigid and deep waters but prefer to stick to more shallow waters. If needed, they can dive up to 330 feet when pursuing krill, fish, squid and crustaceans. Rockhopper penguins are carnivores that are classified as birds and can weigh up to 6.6 pounds and grow up to 22 inches high. They have a protection status of "vulnerable" and live about 10 years in the wild.
