How long do penguins live?

The length of a penguins life varies based on the breed, but the average penguin lives in the wild for 10 to 20 years. Both the Emperor penguin and Adelie penguin live on Antarctica.
The Emperor penguin is the most well-known penguin, popularized in movies and cartoons. This penguin lives between 15 and 20 years in the wild. The Adelie penguin can live up to 20 years in the wild, but has been known to live longer when placed into captivity.
One reason penguins live longer in captivity is that there is no risk of being eaten by a predator. More penguin babies survive in captivity, too, since there is no threat of predators and handlers will feed and care for baby penguins that are neglected by the mother.
