What is a Roman numeral conversion chart?

A Roman numeral conversion chart allows the translation of numbers from Roman symbols to the Arabic figures used worldwide. The Cincinnati City School System ABLE/GED program provides such a chart, detailing the Roman symbols for every number from 1 to 100, as well as eight examples for 500.

The Roman counting system uses combinations of seven letters, I, V, X, L, C, D and M, to represent all numbers. These are equal to 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000. When a smaller number is placed in front of a larger number, this indicates a subtraction; the Roman numeral IX, for example, is equal to 10 minus 1, or 9. Conversely, a larger number in front of a smaller number is additive; the number XI is equivalent to 10 plus 1, or 11.
