The S&P Dow Jones Indices is a financial index that covers a wide range of asset classes, including equalities, fixed income, commodities, strategy and specialty products, and real estate. It also offers indices that cover other regions such as the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific, according to Bloomberg Business.
The Dow Jones industrial average and the S&P 500 launched in 1896 and 1957 respectively. In 2012, McGraw Hill Financial and CME Group announced the merger of the S&P and the Dow to form the largest financial index provider in the world. It provides over 1 million indices covering asset classes across the world, as stated by McGraw Hill Financial.
