What's the best way to remove urine smell from a carpet?

For urine stains that are still wet, soak up as much as possible with paper towel and/or newspaper from the carpet, and rinse the affected area thoroughly with cool, clean water. Use a wet vac or extractor to get all stains out of carpeting if the stain has already set.

Removing as much urine as possible while still wet makes removing the scent easier. Put a thick layer of paper towels on the wet place, and cover them with a thick layer of newspaper. If possible, lift up the carpet, and put newspaper underneath it. Take out the padding, repeating until almost all the dampness is gone. After cleaning, use pet odor neutralizer to get rid of the smell.
