According to PetMD, the only safe dose of aspirin that can be given to a dog is one that has been recommended by a veterinarian. Aspirin can provide excellent benefits to dogs, including anti-inflammatory properties and pain relief, but a dog can also suffer from aspirin toxicity when given an incorrect dose.
Signs of aspirin toxicity include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and intestinal hemorrhage, which can occur from an ulceration in the small intestines. In some cases even nontoxic levels of aspirin can cause these symptoms, so a dog should be monitored closely after being any amount of aspirin has been administered.
