One safe way to get the smell of skunk off your pet is to apply a homemade solution of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and soap, according to The Humane Society. Other alternatives include bathing your pet with store-bought remedies or tomato juice.

To make the suggested homemade solution, mix 1 quart of 3-percent hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 teaspoon of liquid dish washing soap. Wearing protective gloves, work the mixture through your pet's fur, then rinse thoroughly to remove the soap and foul odor, advises The Humane Society. Store-bought products, such as Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover, offer a quick fix.
