What is Salvia greggii?

Salvia greggii, also known as autumn sage, is a popular herbaceous perennial that grows natively in the rocky soils of Texas and Mexico. It requires sun or partial sun and has small, aromatic leaves that often bloom in late spring and again in late summer or early fall.
Though its flowers are normally red in color, it also has fuchsia, yellow, purple, burgundy and white varieties. Salvia greggii requires well-drained soil and should be planted in the spring. These perennials attract butterflies and hummingbirds and are also susceptible to fungal leaf spots, stem rot, aphids, whiteflies and spider mites, among others.
