The satsuma orange tree is native to southern China and Southeast Asia. The satsuma tree generally grows to between 15 and 20 feet tall. The satsuma tree blossoms in March and April and has mature fruit in November and December.
Satsuma oranges are also referred to as mandarins or tangerines. Satsuma oranges have a sweet taste. They are between 2 and 4 inches in diameter and are easily peeled. There are approximately 100 different species of satsuma in Japan. About 12 species of satsuma were introduced to the United States and grow along the Gulf Coast from South Carolina to Texas.
