Do schnauzers shed?

Miniature schnauzers either do not shed or shed very little. Other variants of the schnauzer, such as the standard schnauzer, may shed in greater quantities. When adopting from a kennel, it is advised to consult the breeder to ask whether or not the parents of the prospective dog shed .

The miniature schnauzer has a wiry coat that is easy to groom and maintain. Daily maintenance with a wire brush is best for optimal quality, otherwise mats are more likely to occur. Mats should be cut away if they appear. The coat of the miniature schnauzer should be cut evenly in the spring and fall, and the hair around the eyes and ears should be regularly trimmed with blunt-nosed scissors.
