Who is the school superintendent for Miami-Dade county?

As of January 2016, Alberto M. Carvalho is the Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. He has served as the Superintendent since September 2008. He was named Florida’s 2014 Superintendent of the Year and the 2014 National Superintendent of the Year.

Carvalho also serves as the principal of the Primary Learning Center and the iPrep Academy. He attended and graduated from Barry University with a bachelor's degree in Biology and became a science teacher at Miami Jackson Senior High. He eventually became the assistant principal before landing a job in the district's downtown office. He worked under his predecessor Rudy Crew before being promoted to Superintendent.
