A white-winged dove's scientific name is Zenaida asiatica, and it belongs to the family Columbidae. It belongs to the same family as pigeons, with whom the bird is confused in many regions.
Doves fall in the Chordata phylum, Aves class and Columbiformes order. Adult white-winged doves are brownish-gray in color and are distinguished by white wing bars. They are also recognizable by the blue skin around their eyes, black spot beneath their eyes and red irises. Juvenile doves do not have the blue eye rings or black irises. Male doves are typically larger than females and have a hint of iridescent purple coloring on their heads and necks.
