Are there sharks in Jamaica?
By Forinfos - 14/09/2025 - 0 comments
The waters of Jamaica are home to many species of sharks. Almost every ocean in the world has sharks in it.
While many sharks, such as tiger sharks and hammerheads, prefer warm waters, other species, such as the great white, roam from the cold northern waters to the southern Caribbean at least once a year. Most sharks migrate for the purposes of feeding and breeding.
A few shark species, such as nurse sharks, stay closer to shore, while most other species alternate between offshore and inshore living. The bull shark is the one species that inhabits both fresh and salt water environments. Sharks are most active at dusk and in the early dawn hours.
