Who should take a multivitamin?

Health experts recommend that everyone takes multivitamins, according to WebMD. Many people do not eat a balanced diet daily, and multivitamins bridge the nutrient gap.
The most common vitamins and minerals that Americans are deficient in are vitamins E, C and A, magnesium, and calcium, states WebMD. People who do not get the required nutrients from food or supplements can develop conditions such as anemia and vitamin B12 deficiency. The elderly, vegetarians, and women in their childbearing years most commonly experience health problems due to vitamin and nutrient deficiencies. Vegetarians do not get vitamin B12 from animal products, and the elderly absorb vitamin B12 less efficiently.
