The best time to plant crepe myrtles in Southeast Oklahoma is late fall or early spring. Crepe myrtles can also be planted in the summer if mulch is used to help keep moisture in and weeds down. Crepe myrtle has multiple spellings, including crape myrtle, crapemyrtle and crepemyrtles.

Crepe myrtles range in size from dwarf selections to plants that reach over 30 feet. The plants can be used as a hedge or screen or as a distinctive focal point in a yard or garden. Crepe myrtles require full sun for an abundant flower production, as full shade results in little to no flowers.
