The best time to plant hollyhock seeds is in the late winter, about a week before the last frost. If planting seedlings, the best time to do so is a couple of weeks after the last frost.
Hollyhocks need to be planted in a place that receives full sunlight. They also need rich, moist and well drained soil to thrive. Gardeners should plant the seeds about 1/4 of an inch deep and about 2 feet apart from each other.
After planting the hollyhocks, they do not require much care; however, they only live for about 2 to 3 years. To get the most out of hollyhocks, gardeners must remember to give them plenty of air circulation and to treat them with an antifungal treatment.
