When should you plant tomato seeds?

Tomato seeds should be planted indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost of the season. Choose a site that gets about 6 hours of sun each day. For more southern regions, choose a site that is shaded in the afternoon.
The tomato seedlings can then be transplanted outdoors after the final frost of the season when the soil is between 55 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Pinch off a few of the lowest branches and plant the seedling with just the lowest branches above the soil. Water the plants really well to reduce the amount of shock the plants go through.
