When should you replace your home's heat pump?

A home's heat pump must be ideally replaced within 10 years. Heat pumps have a lifespan from 10 years to 15 years, but from 10 years onwards there is rising risk of unit failure, according to Meyers.
A heat pump can also be due for replacement if it is frequently repaired, some rooms feel colder or warmer than others and the cooling and heating bill has risen abnormally, as these are signs of degraded performance.
While there are substantial costs in labor and installation for a new heat pump, units with the Energy Star label offer higher energy efficiency and offer up to 20 percent savings on heating and cooling bills, notes Consumer Affairs.
