Turmeric should be taken orally or applied to the skin, according to WebMD and Turmeric for Health. Its application when applied to the skin primarily is to treat skin conditions, whereas ingesting the spice is effective for upset stomach or arthritis.
To treat skin ailments like psoriasis, eczema, and swelling and bruising, turmeric can be mixed into a paste, such as one made with milk and honey, ingested with milk or brewed as a tea. Although there are no major side effects to direct application to the skin, the spice can stain. A medicinal dosage is 500 mg per serving, states Tumeric for Health.
