How do you sign up for digital TV?

Receiving digital TV requires no sign up. All full-power TV stations in the United States broadcast digital signals, and low-power TV stations must switch to digital by September 1, 2015. Receipt of these signals requires a digital-ready TV, digital converter box, VCR, DVR or similar device.

Digital cable and satellite services require sign up through a provider, such as Dish Network, DirecTV, Comcast or Time Warner. Sign up is available through provider websites and in stores that sell their products, such as Best Buy. Full- and low-power TV stations provide free digital TV content, while cable and satellite providers charge subscription fees. However, Comcast does provide free digital TV shows online through its subsidiary, Xfinity.
